An article published by Bloomberg quoted Laurie on the consequences of children missing school and being unable to access free and reduced-price meals:
“The problem is people can’t take off work to get to the school. That’s when the meals are available, and that has to do with the school schedule and cafeteria staff bagging the meal,” said Laurie Taylor-Mitchell, president of the Student Support Network of Baltimore County, which provides support for impoverished students in the Maryland county.
