On a cold, gray winter day, sometimes the smallest moments bring the brightest light.
One of our Lead Volunteers shared this beautiful story from last week:
“I was volunteering in the music classroom last week and was about to tie-up the shoelaces of a little first grader. Then she said, ‘My shoes are too small and hurt my feet,’ to which I said, ‘I can fix that for you.’ She was in size 12 shoes, but by the time we found the right pair for her—having tried a 12.5 and a 13—she picked a pair of 1s. She had a huge smile on her face and darted off to join her gym class.”
That smile. That confidence. That feeling of being seen and cared for.
It may seem like just a pair of shoes — but to that student, it meant comfort, dignity, and the freedom to run into gym class without pain.
That’s the kind of sunshine our volunteers bring into schools every single day.
